100 DAYS OF DISCIPLINE: Day 1

Athletes go into training, alter their diets and sleep patterns, sacrifice activities that impair performance. Is writing a novel really a less rigorous pursuit?

This is my attempt to build the habits that will get me to the finish line that's called THE END, one small step at a time.

Each day I will add one new discipline:

Day 1: Go to bed by 10 pm.

  5. I'm happy to see you here. I hope you'll put a post in simply wait announcing this new blog. It's a wonderful idea, and may help me in the future. I'll be following, but not your first discipline. Even if I were a morning person, my work schedule just won't allow it.

  6. Josephine: That's been my habit, too--but starting tonight (in 11 minutes to be exact, I'm changing it!)

    Larramie: So good to see you here! I hope and believe you're right--discipline applies to any goal.

    Steve: You've got to go with what works for you. I used to work a lot of late nights, and I've never entirely gotten out of the schedule. But these days, I've gotten very skilled at wasting my free time in the evenings.

  10. I already go to bed at 10 PM--and am awakened by jim's alarm at 5 AM (out of bed by 6!) to be at school at 7:20 (or so). I don't know if I can do any more.

    that's been my excuse the last 3 years.

    but I am on spring break this week. so NOW what's my excuse?

  13. Ah, this is the discipline I am trying to achieve for the month of May. So far, well, not so good. Insomnia doesn't help. But I'll keep trying.

    It generally takes 21 days for a new discipline to become a habit. Of course, that's 21 days of doing it, not thinking about it.
